Of late, the use of RV is on rise and RV garage plans have been around for a few decades. The advantages of having an RV garage are obvious. RVs are not immune to the elements.

Like any other type of vehicle, and especially given the fact that they are used for recreational purposes mostly, parking your RV in a purposely built garage will definitely help to keep it in good nick for longer. This article will offer handy DIY tips to help you build your own RV garage in no time at all.

Otherwise known as the recreational vehicle, it is often used as both a vehicle and temporary travel home across Europe and in other parts of the world. Intended for a wide range of uses like, leisure trips, vacations and camping, as well as full-time living quarters as is evident in trailer parks, the RV has in its own inimitable way become part of the modern-day landscape in which we live. RV garage plans that are cost-effective are what you need to consider when embarking on such a building project.

Why?Because the cost element is significantly higher than that of your regular garage, and although you may be able to obtain most materials as you would when creating a standard garage, you all need to consider modifications that would include an elevated roof, and perhaps an exhaust to protect the RV from exposure to the elements.

Determining the size of the your RV and obtaining the necessary building permits are the first steps you need to take as it may take a few weeks. That said, and considering the fact that a garage is an extension of the home, it is highly unlikely that your application will be declined.

Location is keyWhere you plan to build your garage needs to be ascertained from the outset? Most homes either have front or side garage, but either way, ideally your garage should be constructed in the most accessible location — usually where the house is most accessible to the driveway.

Your RV garage plans therefore need to take into consideration WHERE you plan to locate your garage because it is the space available that may provide that key element in determining how the interior of your garage should be constructed in respect of the functions you have planned for it. Once you have determined it, the rest is easy.

EconomicsAt the end of the day, you want to know how much it is going to cost you. The amount of money you can expect to spend on building your new garage. If you are planning to go the DIY route, then obviously, you stand to save a considerable amount of money, although it can’t hurt to hire a handyman to help out with its construction, that as considering if you yourself are not a DIY expert.

In square feet, depending on where you live, it may cost you anywhere from 30 to 100 GBP; and this will also depend on the material you use. That said the sure-fire way to save a significant amount of money is to come up with cost-effective and well thought through RV garage plans which are easily available from different websites that specialize in building garages.

The recreation vehicle industry has plenty of cause to celebrate. RVs are turning 100 years old in 2010 and making a sales rebound that analysts have called a positive indication for the U.S. economy.

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) reports wholesale shipments are forecasted to grow 30 percent in 2010. Wholesale RV shipments are expected to total 215,900 units in 2010, according to Dr. Richard Curtin’s latest projection in the Spring 2010 issue of RV Roadsigns, RVIA’s quarterly forecast.

The gain to 215,900 units would be a 30 percent rise over the 2009 year end total of 165,700 units, RVIA says. Curtin attributes the rising shipment totals seen in late 2009 and early 2010 to the restocking of dealer inventories, as well as an improving trend in RV, travel trailer and 5th Wheel sales to consumers.

“There will be some economic conditions, such as lagging job and income growth and lingering credit constraints, that could slow the pace of progress,” said Curtin. “But, the industry is firmly on the road to recovery with the expected gains in RV shipments next year to be shared by travel trailers as well as motor homes.”

National business media have been reporting that rising RV shipments and RV manufacturers rehiring workers are signs of a national recovery from the recession. The media has been responding to RVIA shipment data showing steady growth in shipments the past few months.

November shipments were more than double the total from the same month in 2008. On a seasonally adjusted annual basis, November shipments topped 225,000 units – the fourth consecutive month in which that figure surpassed 200,000 units, RVIA says.

The good news for the RV industry couldn’t be coming at a better time as the RV turns 100. America’s leading RV historians – David Woodworth, Al Hesselbart and Roger White – cite 1910 as the beginning of what has become the modern RV industry, reports the Go RVing Coalition, which consists of RV manufacturers, component suppliers, dealers and campgrounds.”The first motorized campers were built in 1910,” says Woodworth, a collector of early RVs and RV camping memorabilia. “Before then, people camped in private rail cars that were pulled to sidings along train routes. The year 1910 brought a new freedom to people who didn’t want to be limited by the rail system. RVs allowed them to go where they wanted, when they wanted.”

Hesselbart, archivist for the RV/MH Heritage Museum in Elkhart, Ind., also pinpoints 1910 as the birth of the RV industry. “Camping has been around for centuries, but 1910 is when the first auto-related camping vehicles were built for commercial sale.” These were known as “auto campers” or “camping trailers” a century ago.Along with taking in the scenic adventures of the open road, watching the pocketbook is also possible with RV and Fifth Wheel ownership.

“Owning an RV makes economic sense. You are able to travel while spending significantly less. You have unlimited flexibility, even on a limited budget. Many RV models allow a family of four to save up to 61 percent on vacation costs over other forms of travel,” Go RVing says.

Forest River Lexington Motor Home Review

Article by Motor Home Specialist

As Class B+ motor homes go, the Forest River Lexington is up there mixing it with the best of them. It is especially appealing to the budget conscious consumer and is a good starter motor home. There is a small selection of different floor plans available, but enough choice to ensure you find one that fits with your intended use of the vehicle. It is not going to appeal to those who want to relax in ultimate luxury, but that should be expected due to its affordability.

The standard fixtures and fittings inside the Lexington serve a practical purpose. They are not designed to provide ultimate luxury, but they do provide a stylish living area and comfortable sleeping area. The cedar lined wardrobes add a homely feel while the practical shower unit and toilet takes care of hygiene. The standard entertainment system will suit most people, but there is the option of upgrading to include a DVD player with a premium surround sound system if desired.

With the 235S, it is clearly designed for small traveling parties as it does not feature a master bedroom. This makes it one of the more interesting floor plan options with entry towards the rear. Normally, entry is towards the front or actually via the passenger door. It is able to hold 25 gallons of fresh water and 27 gallons of gray and black water. This is large enough to cope with the demands of most users, but will require a refill when on extended trips.

The other floor plan options all include a decent sized queen bed and master bedroom area. This is in addition to the sofa and living area where additional bed space is available if needed. The amount of water storage is also larger with all other models having the capacity to carry 44 gallons of fresh water and 35 gallons of gray and black water. All models have the same fuel capacity of 55 gallons so there isn’t a real need to stop too frequently to fill up between planned stopover areas.

For people who like to sit out and relax at their destination, the Forest River Lexington offers an awning size of 12 foot 6 inches with the 235S up to 18 foot with the 283TS. This is a large enough space considering the 235S does not feature a master bedroom area. Bear in mind, additional luxurious fixtures and fittings will quickly inflate the cost of most other motor homes, but will still leave the Lexington with most people’s budget.
